Poem du Jour: Hospital Waiting Room Haiku

ficus stand vigil
beneath sham electric sun--
calming dust comforts.
While waiting for my father-in-law's bypass surgery to be finished, and to hear the news, which ultimately was good, I endeavored to write a haiku about the environment I found myself in. This was more challenging than I had anticipated, and while I could have drafted some long, free-form piece, I attempted to practice the level of discipline required of the 5-7-5 haiku.

Maybe I was thinking too hard. When I was washing my hands in the restroom, I noticed a sign which easily fit into the format:
"If this restroom is
in need of cleaning supplies,
or repair, please call."
Maybe it's not so hard after all!
