A Meditative Tanka

It's been a few days since I've felt inspired, and even longer since writing in the tanka form, but it's time to write whether "inspired" or not!

Like haiku, the tanka (both are ancient forms of Japanese poetry) follows a suggested syllable "count" for each line, in this case 5-7-5-7-7 (five lines). It is more challenging to follow the "intent" of the form (capturing a single moment or instance in the natural world) than it is to get the clapping of syllables correct.

I continue to bend the "rules" of that aspect of the form shaping it into a variation that better fits my more limited thinking.
scent of sandalwood--
ethereal streams carry
past the quiet thought.
Smoldering ash separates,
silently fragrant cinders.
Stay Poetic!
